The West of England Cavalier King Charles Club saw the light of day in the early sixties.  It was a seed planted by a small band of ladies in the West Country. A few classes of Cavaliers were included at the Bath and West Peke club show. Whilst at this show, two ladies, Mrs Burroughs and Mrs Murray managed to persuade enough people to become founder members and thus in 1962 "The West of England Cavalier Club" was born.

Mrs Burroughs went on to be the first Hon. Secretary and Mrs Murray, the Chairman. These were very strong and determined ladies and it was due to their hard work and foresight that the club has such strong foundations today

Molly Coaker Memorial Show

(Combined Cavalier Club Show)

It was our turn to host the Combined Cavalier Club Championship Show on 20th August 2011 and we are decided to dedicate this show to Molly Coaker who sadly passed away at the end of 2010.

This was a special show held at Top Barn Farm Worcs on 20th August 2011 and gave Cavalier enthusiasts the opportunity to attend and pay tribute to one of our greatest breeders of Cavaliers. We had a wonderful display of photos of the many famous Homerbrent and Homaranne dogs spanning five decades. We produced a small booklet dedicated to Molly and her dogs and every exhibitor received a free copy.

There were 325 Cavaliers entered for judges Veronica Hull (Telvara) and Annette Jones (Timsar) and 23 Champions paraded in the lunch break to the delight of the spectators. The weather was ideal for showing and on grass the dogs looked fabulous in the sunshine. There were lots of specials for winners gifted from generous donors, including sashes sent from Australia by Jenny Howden. We were delighted that her husband John, daughter Anne and close friend Heather Wheeler were able to attend. Anne kindly presented the awards and specials to the final winners.

After the show everyone was in a party mood. Dennis Homes (Leogem) entertained the crowd for an hour with songs and a witty routine The happy crowd then proceeded outside to queue for a Hog Roast dinner and then took to the floor dancing to live music.

The day was a great success. I am sure that Molly would have approved.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

1962 - 2012

This year was a milestone in the history of the Club when we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Our judges Gladys Baillie and Valerie Harvey had a nice entry of 266 and once again our dear friend Jenny Howden from Australia donated beautiful sashes for the winners. To commemorate the occasion all exhibitors received a 50th Anniversary Car Sticker and were treated to a glass of "bubbly" and a slice of cake.

The club has a hard working and dedicated committee who will strive to do their best for their members and for the good of the breed.
